(Don’t) Judge a book by its cover #13: Shades of Earth, Beth Revis

Shades of Earth

Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They’re ready to start life afresh–to build a home–on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience.

But this new Earth isn’t the paradise Amy had been hoping for. There are giant pterodactyl-like birds, purple flowers with mind-numbing toxins, and mysterious, unexplained ruins that hold more secrets than their stone walls first let on. The biggest secret of all? Godspeed’s former passengers aren’t alone on this planet. And if they’re going to stay, they’ll have to fight.

Amy and Elder must race to discover who–or what–else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. They will have to look inward to the very core of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed–friends, family, life on Earth–will have been for nothing.

FUELED BY LIES.

RULED BY CHAOS.

ALMOST HOME.

This book was just released, but I’ve been judging its cover since the first time I saw it. Time and time again I asked myself or Maeva: why? The hardcovers for Across the Universe and A Million Suns were just so beautiful and got incredible along in the shelves, but this one… No way!

Everytime a publisher do something like that I get so angry! They could finish the hardcover series in the same patterns, but no… They had to go and republish every book in a new style (and a bad one).

I think my hatred is so strong that I can’t even appreciate the cover standing alone. I just think it is a terrible cover for a very good series, and they did the same kind of thing with the novella that will be published this year too!

Can’t wait to read the book, really, but the cover… Argh!

This is one of those times I wish they had done this from the beginning. While I don’t really like the new covers for ATU and AMS, I do think Shades fits the book well. I don’t know. I hate cover changes. Sometimes it’s impossible to have a matching series because of covers and PB v HB changes.

I haven’t read this. Does the cover fit the story, because if it does I can forgive it being kind of ordinary?

I got this book this week, as a present from Guta. It’s my next reading, and I’ll for sure review it here, so I’ll mention my opinion about the cover on my review.
